Spider and Jack-O-Lanterns - How To's

I had some chocolate melts left over and was wondering what to do with them.  I found some double stuffed Oreos and took one side of the cookie off and reversed it.  Placed it back on the creme and pressed.  Then insert a popsicle stick.  I decided to use a spoon to just apply the melted chocolate to one side of the Oreo and then decorate.  Super easy and cute.  The kids loved it!!!

Next, I have attempted cake balls before and had NO luck.  I thought I would give it a go again, for the kids sake:)  Well they turned out okay, nothing to be excited about.  At least the kids had fun dipping and decorating.  Of course the eating part was the best!!!

For the cake pops you will need:
-One box cake
-One tub of icing
- one bag of popsicle sticks
-candy melts

Bake the cake as directed.  Once cooled add 3/4 of the icing to the cake.  Mix together in a bowl.  Form balls out of the cake mixture, about 1 - 1 1/2 in.  Let stand in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.  Melt candy melts and stick the popsicle stick tips into the chocolate and insert into cake balls.  Let the chocolate set. Then roll the balls in the melted chocolate to coat completely.  Finally decorate.

Be careful, the cake balls do come off the popsicle stick kinda easy!!!!

Pop Corn Balls - How To

So I started to put everything together for the kids to help me make popcorn balls, one of the treats we make every year, and I could not find the recipe.  I had to search online and hope to find one that would replicate my family recipe.  I came across one and just modified it.

I omitted white vinegar and did not add vanilla.  Let the sugar mixture cook till hard crack.  Once I popped the corn in the pan I added a sprinkle of salt to allow for that sweet and salty taste.  Just in case you missed it, yes I said pan for popping popcorn:)  It is the pan that my grandmother, my kids great grandmother, used when she was a kid.  How much more natural can you get, besides the sugar you will be pouring on it of course;)

I allowed the kids to put butter on their hands and help form the balls once it had COOLED, about two minutes.  Then they wrapped each popcorn ball with some candy corns in individual bags so my son could bring them to his classmates.

When making the popcorn balls you can add M&Ms, chocolate chip mini's, or any other kind of candy.  Just make sure to let the sugar mixture to cool a little bit before adding.  You do not want the candy to melt.

I hope you enjoy making these sweet and salty treats!!!

Ghost Cookies - How To

  Supplies:
- Package Nutter Butter cookies
- Package white almond bark or chocolate melts
- Package Nestle Toll house Chocolate Chips
- Wax paper
- Two cookie sheets
- Double boiler

Line two cookie sheet with wax paper, set aside. Put the almond bark(Chocolate) in the double boiler on medium heat.  If the chocolate is thick you can add a small amount of Crisco.  Put one cookie in the chocolate at a time and coat.  Use a fork to pick up, tap the side of the pot to remove extra chocolate.  Place on cookies sheets.  Let cool for two minutes, then add the chocolate chips for the ghost eyes.  It will take a while to harden or put in the freezer for fast results.  Enjoy your ghost treats:)

Chocolate Oreo - How To

 Supplies:
- One package Oreos
- At least two colors Wilton candy melts
- Wilton candy mold
- Paint brush

Melt candy melts in the microwave, stirring every 30 seconds till melted.  Use the paint brush to paint on chocolate on the raised areas on the pumpkin mold.  Put in freezer till hard(should take 2-3 minutes).  Next use a spoon to fill cat and pumpkin areas.  Repeat freezer.  Next fill the remainder of the mold with opposite color chocolate, press in Oreo. Let stand till hard.  Then enjoy the sweet treat:)

You can use as many color melts as you like.  The kids loved painting with chocolate but it is pretty details to stay on the lines so I opted for as few colors as needed:)

Wilton has a wide variety of candy molds that you can use to create cool treats that are easy for kids to make!!!

                    Black and orange food color
                         Two cans of white icing
